The Future Has Just Begun

The election appears to be over, with President Bush winning reelection.

The Republicans gained seats in the Senate and the House, as well as in state governorships.

This morning the sun came up.

More African-Americans voted in this election than ever.  Did your heart not swell with pride at the reports!!

More African-Americans voted Republican than in 2000.  Good for you for standing your ground in the face of ostracization.

And the hip-hop coalition did not vote any more in this election than they did in 2000.

This morning the sun came up.

Some friends are wringing their hands.

Some friends are gloating – didn’t your mama try to teach you what goes up, does come down??

Some friends are … well I haven’t checked in with everyone.  I’m late for work.

This morning the sun came up.

I still have to go to work.

My sister’s workload is no less than it usually is, which is way too much.

My mother is still seriously ill, and thank you for your prayers and well-wishes.

And a company that shall remain nameless is still being an a$$hole and the scum of the earth.

This morning the sun came up.

There are still still too many soldiers in Iraq.

There are still too many children hungry.

And there are too many unemployed.

This morning the sun came up.

And exit polls say Bush is more trustworthy.

Bush is more moralistic.

But Bush is not very intelligent.   Just the messenger, not the message.  And for some of you folks who need to go into the spin mode, either we accept all the news or not.  This isn’t pick and choose.

This morning the sun came up.

And Republicans and some political pundits say ‘Kerry concede.’

And Republicans and some political pundits are actually calling the networks and saying declare Bush the winner.

Don’t think we don’t see through that.  You want a momentum landslide to pressure Kerry.

So to the Republicans, ‘if you were in Kerry’s shoes you’d act as he has, so don’t play that.’

To the Democrats, ‘if you were in Bush’s shoes you’d act as he has, so don’t play that.

We’re all watching.  Neither is impressing.

This morning the sun came up.

And contrary to all the above, I see hope.

Barack Obama and Gwen Moore are going to Washington.

Issues such as gay marriage have had a set back (all states with this referendum on the ballot, voted it down), but that doesn’t mean it’s over.  Nor should it be.

All moral viewpoints should not be law.

Morals justified slavery,Jim Crow and apartheid.

Morals justify the religious wars and skirmishes, past and present.

Morals ain’t keeping a lot of you at home at night or from lying and stealing for your own purpose.

This morning the sun came up and here is a promise.

ANYONE, REGARDLESS OF POLITICAL AFFILIATION, WHO DOES NOT WORK WITH US FOR A BETTER NONDIVISIVE FUTURE FOR ALL OF US …

We will step over you.

We will squash you.

We will UNITE AND eliminate you from our scope.

The vote may be over, the result a far gone conclusion, but to both political parties, ‘Silence will not be Golden.’

This morning the sun came up and here is a promise.

Crawl into the fetal position if you want.

Wring your hands if you want.

Been there, Done that, may do it again, but right now ..

This morning the sun came up.

wE’RE rEFRESHED.

wE’RE rEVITALIZED.

And We’re still here.

Your worst nightmare AND your brightest hope.

And if you don’t get this, or don’t care.

You will.

Because we do.
